About Us — information about the mission, goals, and activities of the international ARGA Observatory

An independent international initiative established within the Asylum Research & Global Assistance (ARGA) Association to study and monitor the phenomenon of lawfare — the use of legal systems for political or economic purposes.
We bring together lawyers, researchers, and analysts to systematically document cases of unlawful law enforcement, analyze judicial practices, and develop international standards of protection.

to promote the strengthening of the rule of law and the transparency of justice in post-Soviet and transition countries

What does ARGA Observatory do?

ARGA Observatory compiles a database of court decisions, publishes analytical reports, and provides practical guidelines and expert consultations based on the principles of the UN, the OECD, and the Council of Europe.

What We Study

We study how state and private actors use criminal, administrative, or tax law to exert pressure on activists, entrepreneurs, and independent institutions.

Principles of Work

ARGA Observatory bases its work on the principles of neutrality, transparency, and evidence-based analysis. All data undergo expert verification and are confirmed with documented sources.

What the Project Focuses On

The project is focused not on political interpretations, but on documenting and analyzing legal processes from the standpoint of international law and fair trial standards.

The project also serves an educational function:

through publications, seminars, and open materials, we promote the development of a culture of legal analysis and foster a solid understanding of the role of an independent judiciary in modern society.
